The Rhythm Sideboard

Designed in collaboration with furniture maker Michael Smith who runs Idle Furniture in Sheffield.

The sideboard features simple repetitive detail, furnishing the cabinet with rhythmic moments of light and shadow. This is most notable on the slatted back where 43 slats have been used all the way across the cabinet to form a sculptural backdrop, allowing the cabinet to be used as a space divider as well as a traditional sideboard. In order to retain the simplicity of the design hidden sliding dovetails have been used to tie the structure back into the cabinet, allowing it to move freely during seasonal change. The sliding doors can be removed completely to fully reveal the structure.
